Over the previous 10 years, NZ has experienced unprecedented electricity charge increases. The price has almost doubled. The reasons for this rapid increase comes down to a few factors.
The general trend in the home and business, is an increase in appliances being used. Also, some appliances, eg stereo or TV, PC still use power while in standby mode !
With a continual increases in demand, the grid requires greater output supply. This situation forces supply companies to explore and install new supply plants in the form of hydro dams, wind turbines, etc. These costs flow on to consumers, and can have an impact on the environment and ecosystem.
